Ready to build a career helping people connect with the world around them? Explore Montclair State University's Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program, where you'll study hearing science, anatomy and neuroscience while gaining hands-on experience with diagnostic tools and hearing technologies.

Montclair's 118-credit AuD program can be completed in 11 semesters over four years, including summers. You'll learn to assess, diagnose and treat patients across the lifespan, from children's screenings to helping older adults manage hearing loss, and complete applied research and clinical training.

A Distinctive Path to Audiology

Montclair's Doctor of Audiology program is the only program of its kind in New Jersey and one of approximately 75 programs nationwide. Graduates are prepared for meaningful careers in healthcare, education and industry.

Program Highlights

The AuD combines rigorous academic preparation with clinical practice, research and professional mentorship. The program prepares graduates to serve patients in hospitals, community clinics, rehabilitation centers, schools and private practice.

Science, Technology & Clinical Practice

Build a strong foundation in the science of hearing, anatomy, neuroscience and balance. Develop the skills to use cutting-edge diagnostic tools and hearing technologies across a range of patient needs.

A required nine-month, full-time externship gives you extended experience in an audiology clinic and helps connect coursework to professional practice.

Accreditation & Career Readiness

The residential AuD education program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Graduates are eligible for New Jersey licensure and certification by ASHA's Council for Clinical Certification under the 2020 Certification Standards.

Who Should Consider Audiology?

This program is designed for applicants with the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree who want to pursue doctoral study and a patient-centered career in hearing and balance care. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 will not be considered for admission. Students may also enter at the post-baccalaureate level.
