Criminal Justice Leadership & Innovation (MA) Virtual Information Session

Tuesday, December 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM until 4:00 PMEastern Standard Time UTC -05:00

Ready to lead change across the criminal and community justice field? Explore Montclair State University's MA in Criminal Justice Leadership and Innovation, an online program that strengthens leadership grounded in ethical decision-making, evidence-based practice and innovation.

Montclair's 30-credit master's program can be completed through flexible 7-week online courses in fall, spring and summer, with asynchronous assignments you complete on your schedule. You'll build practical skills in data-driven decision-making, crime analysis, grant writing and problem-solving, then apply them in a capstone project that can make an immediate impact in your organization or community.

A Distinctive Path to Justice Leadership

The program pairs flexible online learning with a focused, in-person capstone experience: a 3-day low-residency during JUST 533 Innovative Practice and Application, where you develop a project, gather stakeholder feedback and present your work. A live virtual option may be available if necessary.

    Program Highlights

The MA blends rigorous academic preparation with applied, career-focused learning. It is built for current or aspiring justice professionals who want to address complex challenges such as public safety, social inequality and community cohesion — and move beyond traditional approaches toward innovative, community-focused solutions.

Who Should Consider Criminal Justice Leadership?

This program is designed for recent graduates and professionals at every stage of their careers who are seeking leadership growth across law enforcement, courts, corrections, community justice and related public service roles. A criminal justice background is not required — the program also welcomes applicants from government, nonprofit and community-based organizations, economics, sociology, social policy and public administration. Applicants need the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree; students seeking an F1/J1 visa are not eligible for this online program.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Submit the online application with the $60 fee, transcripts from each college attended, a resume or CV, a 500–750 word essay on how ethical leadership can contribute to a just society, and two letters of recommendation; the GRE is optional. Review the full Criminal Justice Leadership and Innovation program details and application checklist before applying.
