During this virtual information session, you'll learn how this 36-credit program prepares certified educators for administrative roles such as principal, supervisor or director and how you can choose the pathway that fits your life, including the Fast Track, which lets you earn your degree online in as little as 14 months while continuing to work full-time.
One Program. Many Pathways to Leadership.
The MA in Educational Leadership offers four ways to earn your degree, Core Choice, Fast Track, fully online, or an Off-Site district cohort, so you can match the pacing, schedule and format to your career and budget. Coursework is available in online (7-week or 14-week sessions), hybrid (including weekend), and campus-based formats.
Program Highlights
Montclair's CAEP-accredited MA in Educational Leadership blends leadership theory, organizational management and educational policy with practical skills in supervision, curriculum development and data-driven decision-making. Choose the format that works best for you and expand your credentials with New Jersey Principal and Supervisor certification eligibility.
Program Pathways & Options
Core Choice offers the most flexibility: take anywhere from 1–4 classes per term to work within your schedule and budget, in online (7- or 14-week), hybrid (including weekend) or campus-based formats. It's a strong fit if you're aligning with district reimbursement or need a semester off for commitments such as coaching.
The Fast Track lets you earn the full 36-credit master's online with both Principal and Supervisor certifications (if eligible) in as little as 14 months while working full-time. This cohort-based, summer-to-summer program runs three classes each semester. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; submit by March 15 for an early decision within seven business days, with a final deadline of May 8 for summer entry.
The fully online option lets you learn on your own time in 7-week sessions, one course at a time, in an asynchronous format. Off-Site cohorts bring the program to educators in districts with established University partnerships across New Jersey.

Certification & Careers
Graduates meet the academic requirements for the New Jersey Principal and Supervisor certifications. Three years of teaching or educational services experience qualify for Supervisor certification, and five years qualify for Principal certification, but you can apply to the program with less experience.
Already hold your New Jersey Supervisor Certification? You can complete the MA in just 24 credits and pursue your New Jersey Principal and School Administrator certifications.
Coursework emphasizes equity and inclusion, preparing you to create school environments where all students can thrive. Faculty who are experienced leaders provide real-world insight, while internships and field experiences let you apply your learning in authentic school settings, preparing you for roles such as principal, supervisor or director at the building or district level.
