Graduate Program Session

Reading(MA)

Montclair's 33-credit MA in Reading prepares certified teachers to become leaders in literacy instruction and support. In this session, you'll learn how the program builds advanced expertise in reading theory, assessment, intervention, and instructional leadership while helping students meet the requirements for Reading Specialist certification in New Jersey.

Build skills to diagnose reading challenges, design targeted interventions, and apply evidence-based literacy practices.
Explore advanced study in literacy development, reading and writing instruction, and support for English Language Learners.
Complete a low-residency program designed for working teachers, with all but two practicum courses offered fully online.
See how the degree prepares graduates for roles such as reading specialist, literacy coach, and district-level literacy leader.

Graduate Program Session

Reading Specialist (Certification)

Montclair's 30-credit Reading Specialist Certification program is designed for certified teachers with a master's degree who want to lead literacy improvement school-wide. In this session, you'll learn how the program deepens expertise in reading assessment, intervention, and instructional leadership while offering a low-residency format that supports working educators.

Strengthen your ability to diagnose reading challenges and design targeted literacy interventions for diverse learners.
Prepare for roles such as reading specialist, literacy coach, reading interventionist, and K-12 literacy leader.
Complete a low-residency program with all but two practicum courses offered fully online.
Accelerate completion by transferring up to six previous relevant graduate credits, where eligible.
